About Waist Circumference Assessment
How It Works
Waist circumference is a simple but powerful anthropometric measurement that assesses abdominal obesity. Research has shown that excess fat stored around the abdomen (visceral fat) is more metabolically active and associated with greater health risks than subcutaneous fat stored elsewhere.
How to Interpret Results
The thresholds used in this assessment are based on WHO guidelines. Elevated waist circumference indicates increased risk for cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and metabolic syndrome. Waist circumference is most informative when used alongside other health metrics like BMI, blood pressure, and blood lipids.
How to Reduce Waist Circumference
Reducing waist circumference requires overall fat loss through a calorie-controlled diet and regular physical activity. Focus on whole foods, adequate protein, fiber, and regular aerobic and resistance exercise. Stress management and adequate sleep also play important roles.
