About Waist-to-Hip Ratio Calculator
How It Works
Waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) is calculated by dividing your waist circumference by your hip circumference. This ratio helps determine body fat distribution patterns, commonly described as apple-shaped or pear-shaped.
How to Interpret Results
For men, a ratio above 0.90 indicates increased health risk. For women, a ratio above 0.85 indicates increased risk. Apple-shaped bodies (higher WHR) carry greater risk for heart disease and diabetes than pear-shaped bodies.
Health Tips
Focus on reducing waist circumference through diet, cardio, and strength training. Stress management and quality sleep also influence abdominal fat storage and overall body composition.
Limitations
WHR does not account for overall body fat percentage. Individuals with low overall obesity may still have elevated risks if WHR is high. Measurement technique significantly affects accuracy.
