About Sugar Intake Calculator
How It Works
The World Health Organization recommends that added sugars make up less than 10% of total daily calories, with 5% being ideal. This calculator estimates your limit based on your calorie needs. Four grams of sugar equals one teaspoon.
How to Interpret Results
Your result shows the maximum recommended added sugar intake in grams. For a 2,000-calorie diet, the limit is 50g (about 12 teaspoons) at 10%, or 25g (6 teaspoons) at the more ideal 5% target.
Health Tips
Check nutrition labels for hidden added sugars under names like sucrose, high-fructose corn syrup, agave, and honey. Whole fruits contain natural sugars with beneficial fiber and nutrients.
Limitations
This guideline applies to added sugars, not naturally occurring sugars in whole fruits and dairy. Individual health conditions like diabetes require more personalized carbohydrate management.
