About BMR Calculator

How It Works

Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is calculated using the Mifflin-St Jeor equation, the most accurate formula for estimating resting energy expenditure. For women: (10 x weight in kg) + (6.25 x height in cm) - (5 x age) - 161. For men: (10 x weight in kg) + (6.25 x height in cm) - (5 x age) + 5.

How to Interpret Results

Your BMR represents the calories your body burns at complete rest to maintain vital functions. It accounts for 60-75% of your total daily calorie burn. Knowing your BMR helps you establish a baseline for weight management.

Health Tips

Building muscle through resistance training can increase your BMR over time. Avoid very low-calorie diets as they can decrease BMR and slow metabolism. Eat enough to support your basic metabolic needs.

Limitations

BMR formulas do not account for individual muscle mass differences. The Mifflin-St Jeor equation is accurate for the general population but still has a margin of error of about 100 calories per day.
