About ASCVD Risk Calculator
How It Works
The ASCVD risk calculator uses the Pooled Cohort Equations developed by the American College of Cardiology and American Heart Association. It estimates your 10-year risk of having a first atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease event, including heart attack and stroke, based on age, cholesterol levels, blood pressure, diabetes status, and smoking history.
How to Interpret Results
Your risk is reported as a percentage. A risk of less than 5% is considered low, 5-7.5% is borderline, 7.5-20% is intermediate, and above 20% is high. These thresholds help guide conversations about statin therapy and lifestyle modifications. This calculator is intended for adults aged 40-79 without prior cardiovascular disease.
Lifestyle Recommendations
To reduce your cardiovascular risk: maintain a heart-healthy diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins; engage in at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity weekly; maintain a healthy weight; manage blood pressure and cholesterol; avoid tobacco; and limit alcohol consumption.
