About GAD-7 Screening
How It Works
The GAD-7 is a 7-item self-report questionnaire that measures the severity of generalized anxiety disorder symptoms over the past two weeks. Each item is scored from 0 (not at all) to 3 (nearly every day), producing a total score from 0 to 21. It is a clinically validated screening tool widely used in primary care and research settings.
How to Interpret Results
Scores of 5-9 indicate mild anxiety, 10-14 indicate moderate anxiety, and 15-21 indicate severe anxiety. A score of 10 or higher warrants further clinical evaluation. The GAD-7 has demonstrated excellent sensitivity and specificity for detecting generalized anxiety disorder.
Coping Strategies
If you are experiencing anxiety symptoms: practice deep breathing and mindfulness techniques, maintain regular physical activity, limit caffeine and alcohol, establish a consistent sleep schedule, connect with supportive people, and consider speaking with a mental health professional for personalized guidance.
