About Aastrand Bicycle Test
How It Works
Pedal a cycle ergometer at a steady workload for 5 minutes while monitoring heart rate. The formula uses the relationship between heart rate, workload, and oxygen consumption to estimate VO₂max with age adjustment.
How to Interpret Results
Your estimated VO₂max is compared to age and gender-specific norms. Higher values indicate better cardiorespiratory fitness and are associated with lower health risks.
Training Tips
To improve your score, incorporate regular cycling, interval training, and steady-state cardio. Aim for 150+ minutes of moderate-intensity exercise per week.
Limitations
This submaximal test assumes a linear HR-VO₂ relationship. Factors like medications, fatigue, and test familiarity may affect accuracy.
